When you receive your new sphynx kitten it has completed its most intensive development period in its life and achieved a number of milestones.
You can be confident that your sphynx kitten will be well socialised as they have extensively interacted with us and our other Sphynx. This improves their socialisation skills. It has been shown and is well researched that kittens who are handled regularly develop larger brains and are better learners.
In our experience: Birth - Sphynx kittens will usually weigh 80-100 grams at birth. The Sphynx mother will clean the kittens and encourage them to nurse.
0 - 2 weeks - Sphynx kittens will generally only eat and sleep at this stage. As kittens develop they will spend less time nursing and more time playing. Their eyes open at 8 - 12 days after birth. Also, kittens will orient themselves to sound.
3 weeks - At three weeks Sphynx kittens are more active and learn to sit. Their sense of smell is well developed and they can recognise and find their mother.
4 weeks - At four weeks they will start taking an interest in the litter box and begin playing with toys and balls. Also their baby teeth begin to erupt and they start showing an interest in 'solid' food.
5 - 6 weeks - At five weeks they start to play rough with each other and toys. Also their sight is fully developed.
7 weeks - At seven weeks mum will teach grooming skills to the kittens.
8 - 13 weeks- During this period kittens will learn socialisation skills from mum and other sphynx, and are generally are fully weaned by the end of 8 weeks.
14 weeks - Sphynx kittens are ready for their new home.
